Chancellor Scholz Unveils Defense Strengthening Measures at Air Show

Berlin, ILA Air Show - Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz has announced the purchase of 20 additional Eurofighter jets for the German Armed Forces.

Speaking at the opening of the International Luftfahrtausstellung (ILA) air show in Berlin, Chancellor Scholz stated that the order is part of a broader effort to strengthen the German Luftwaffe (air force).

"In light of current developments, it is imperative that we invest in our defense capabilities," Scholz said. "These additional Eurofighters will play a crucial role in ensuring the security of our country and our allies."

Germany has previously ordered 38 Eurofighter jets, bringing the total number on order to 58. The Eurofighter is a multirole combat aircraft developed by a consortium of European countries, including Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

The announcement comes amidst growing tensions in Europe and concerns over Russia's military aggression. Germany has pledged to increase its defense spending and strengthen its military capabilities in response.

"We are committed to maintaining a strong and effective defense posture," Scholz emphasized. "These additional Eurofighters are a tangible investment in our security and a clear signal that Germany stands ready to defend itself and its allies."

The order for the additional Eurofighters is expected to be finalized in the coming months, with deliveries commencing in the mid-2020s.
