Chelsea Women Move Into Second with Ruthless Win

Aston Villa 0-3 Chelsea Women - Champions canter to victory

Chelsea Women moved into second place in the Women's Super League with a ruthless 3-0 victory over Aston Villa Women on Wednesday night.

Niamh Charles opened the scoring for the Blues in the first half, before Lauren James netted a brace in the second period to secure the win.

The victory sees Chelsea move above Manchester United into second place, while Aston Villa remain in eighth.

Chelsea Dominate From The Start

Chelsea started the game strongly and took the lead in the 25th minute. Fran Kirby played a lovely pass into the path of Charles, who took a touch before firing into the bottom corner.

The Blues continued to dominate the game and had a number of chances to extend their lead. However, they were unable to find the back of the net again before half-time.

James Seals The Win In The Second Period

Chelsea continued to press after the break and were rewarded for their efforts in the 55th minute. James received the ball on the left wing and drove into the Aston Villa penalty area. She then cut inside and fired a shot into the bottom corner.

James then sealed the win for Chelsea in the 70th minute. She was played through on goal by Kirby and made no mistake, firing the ball into the top corner.

Aston Villa Disappointed With Result

Aston Villa manager Carla Ward was disappointed with her team's performance.

"We are disappointed with the result," Ward said. "We didn't play as well as we can and Chelsea were the better team on the night."

"We will learn from this experience and we will be back stronger next time."
